On October 17th at 6pm, the final pallet of donated food was weighed inside the Regina Food Bank Food Drive Compound.  From the Purolator trucks filled with the donations collected by the Youth of Regina during the door to door campaign, the 'Stuffed' buses and the School Challenge, the citizens of Regina rallied behind the Regina Food Bank to raise the largest amount of food collected in the Food Bank's history.

Weighing in at an impressive 177 tons of food, the Regina Food Bank emerged 'Victoria-ous' in the first ever 'Battle of the Queen Cities'.  Victoria however raised an equally impressive 103 tons of food in their first attempt at a food drive of this magnitude.  Be sure that Victoria will be looking for a rematch in 2010 with the 'Battle of the Queen Cities 2'.

Volunteers are still needed to help sort through the mountain of food in the warehouse.  If you, your family, your friends or co-workers can spare a few hours over the next few weeks, be sure to sign up here.

If you missed participating in this weekend's events, you can still take your donation of non-perishable food items to any Regina Safeway location or to the Regina Food Bank directly.  You can also make a cash donation at anytime, with all proceeds going to purchase food items for those in need.
